The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced you now have until Wednesday, December 18, 2024 (local time) to sign up for coverage that starts January 1, 2025. This extended deadline applies if you live in any of these 31 states that use HealthCare.gov:

These consumers now have an additional three days—until midnight local time Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 (no later than 5 a.m. EST on Thursday, Dec. 19)—to secure a full year of coverage for 2025. If you live in Washington D.C. or a state with its own marketplace (like California or New York), check your state’s healthcare website for specific deadlines.
What You Need to Know:
- If you need coverage starting January 1, sign up by December 18
- If you sign up after December 18, your coverage will start February 1
- You can still enroll through January 15 to start coverage in February for 2025
